The Untapped Resources
Hidden Within Your Child
What untapped treasures lie buried within our children? Are we willing to roll up our sleeves and start digging? Our children's hopes and dreams are worth fighting for.
Being kind is a good way to start. Understand that kindnesses aren't necessarily things you buy for your child. It can be as simple as being considerate, helpful, good-natured, and nice.
Here are a few suggestions on how to start digging!
TIPS Give of yourself to your child A smile can go a long way A kind word can remove layers of hurt A nice gesture can bring a smile to a sad face Be truthful, don't lie to your children Don't try to buy your child's love Money and things are a poor substitute for YOU! Do not expose them to things that aren't age appropriate Encourage your child, everyone need a cheerleader Tell your child you love them, don't assume they know
Even if your hard work doesn't seem to be paying off, don't give up! Keep digging. You may have to get past the many layers of insecurities, lack of trust, anger or resentment your child is covered under.
If your child is still young, try not to add to the junk in the world that tends to send our children 'Underground'. Young children are like tender gardens waiting to be planted with all kinds of wonderful seeds. Nurture your children with love. Sprinkle them with happiness. Make laughter a common thing in your home.
Does this mean there is to be no discipline in your home? No children need and want boundaries, they need to learn right from wrong. Contrary to popular belief discipline is not a dirty word. Discipline means a state of order maintained by training and control. Hmmm training and control... that doesn't sound bad to me.
Any treasure that is worth having is worth searching or fighting for. Sometimes you might hurt as you try to unearth your child, don't give up. It's worth it! Look for and bring to the surface the resources within your child.
